Iris cristata - Crested Iris - a North American Species |
|
Iris cristata - The Crested Iris is a shade loving North American iris species. Thus it makes a lovely ground cover for a shade or woodland garden, producing profuse delicate blooms early in the spring. Iris cristata - is also called the Dwarf Crested Iris. Crested irises readily spread once established and the foliage makes them a beautiful groundcover for shade gardens. Iris cristata cultivars do especially well at the base of large trees and will colonize an area within a few years. They are wonderful when planted amongst taller and later flowering perennials. There are now several cultivars available and when in flower, a well-developed bed can produce a spectacular drift of blue color. |
